Eye health isn't as clear cut as just having clear vision. There can be a number of underlying issues (for people at any age) that can be quite easily detected by having regular eye tests.

Your Eye Examination

Comprehensive Vision Assessments.

Every vision assessment at Christensen Harbison Optometrist is carried out with care and precision. We have one of the few Optical Coherence Tomography instruments in Bundaberg and the Wide Bay which enables a far earlier detection of eye problems such as glaucoma and macular degeneration.

NEW! Optomap wide field retinal Imaging. What is Ultra-widefield retinal imaging? With traditional, small-field, and even widefield retinal imaging, only 10-100⁰ of the retina can be captured in a single image. Optomap is the only true, clinically validated, ultra-widefield retinal image than can capture 82% or 200⁰ of the retina, in a single capture, in each imaging modality – an increase of 50% over the next closest imaging device. With optomap auto-montage, up to 97% or 220⁰ of the retina can be imaged with the multi-capture, montaging functionality.

A typical eye examination will take between 45 minutes and an hour and during this time we will consult, test and examine so that you have complete peace of mind for your eye and vision health. Here's what we do:

History. It's important we discuss your visual and medical history as some conditions like diabetes can affect the retina which could lead to complications later on in life.

Specialist tests. To ensure a complete picture of your vision health we will perform additional tests such as: Pupil Dilation, Digital Photography of the Retina, Field of Vision Testing, Corneal Topography, Intra-Ocular Pressure Testing and a full Inspection of the eye using a microscope and ophthalmoscope to look for any signs of disease or degeneration.

Vision testing. There is no escaping the good old eye chart as we look for visual acuity. A range of tests including reading off the chart and comparing two images, enables us to see how your vision is performing. Which letter looks clearest, which way does the line run are still used to this day to help determine your visual acuity and pick up things like long or short sightedness and lens flexibility.

Make sure you get a one hour park. Not because we’re tardy, but because your eye exam takes time.

Should you need glasses then don't worry, at Christensen Harbison Optometrists it's the optometrist and not a salesperson that will help you choose a frame that not only looks great on you, but that will work properly with your prescription and the design of lens they have in mind.
